Only an award-winning car like the Pulsar could perfectly strike the balance between a functional family car and an executive business model. Blending space with advanced technology and strong performance, the Pulsar delivers exactly what the professional and the family needs.
With its deep flowing lines and pointed nose, the Pulsar looks poised for action, even when parked. At the front the eye is immediately drawn to the ‘V’-shaped grille and elongated headlights which emphasise the length of the bonnet. This long bonnet gives the Pulsar an executive look, creating an almost saloon-like shape. Contours along the side lead the eye to the tail with its large chiselled lamps and sculpted rear bumper.
A black honeycomb front grille and carbon-effect rear-diffuser feature on the standard model for a sportier edge. If you upgrade to the N-Connecta, you’ll also get rear privacy glass to keep your passengers and any belongings out of view. The Tekna also features LED headlights and 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels.
Thanks to the best-in-class 2.7-metre wheelbase, the Pulsar is pleasantly roomy on the inside, with passengers benefiting from plenty of legroom. The boot is spacious too with 385 litres for a few holdalls and sports gear, or a day’s shopping. If you fold the rear seats down, the boot expands to 1,395 litres when you need to get bikes or furniture into the car.
In the cockpit, you’ll enjoy the professional simplicity of a minimalistic car. The entertainment and climate control settings are neatly placed in the centre of the dashboard, while the gear knob is placed comfortably next to your knee on the central console. Air conditioning is included at the entry-level trim so you’ll always be kept at the ideal temperature. In the Tekna, the seats are heated to help you quickly warm up on cold winter mornings.
There are three engines to choose from - two petrol and one diesel. The petrol choices include a 1.2-litre turbo charged unit delivering 113bhp and a 1.6-litre with 187bhp power output. The diesel option is a 1.5-litre 108bhp engine and is the most frugal, delivering up to 78mpg on the combined cycle. For speed, the 1.6-litre petrol cannot be beaten, achieving 0-6mph in less than eight seconds.
Start/stop technology helps you to save on fuel by stopping the engine when you’re parked in traffic with your feet off the pedals. A gear shift makes the performance even more frugal by telling you the optimum time to change gear for fuel-efficiency.
ESP, ABS and Vehicle Dynamic Control make sure your wheels are always firmly fixed on the ground when you’re travelling at speed, to prevent skidding. A tyre pressure monitoring system tells you if you need to visit the air pump to prevent a puncture. The cruise control, which comes as standard on all Pulsars, has a speed limiter so you can relax without worrying about breaking the speed limit. Choose the Tekna if you want moving object detection, lane departure warning and blind spot warning systems, which all let you know if there’s a potential hazard you might not have seen.
The five-inch TFT screen displays the entertainment in an easy-to-read and totally refined format. You can use this to make a call from your smartphone via the Bluetooth connectivity and to control the CD player, radio and a device connected to the USB port. If you go for the N-Connecta, you can enjoy the convenience of satellite navigation, which is displayed on a 5.3-inch touchscreen. It also has NissanConnect which allows you to use your smartphone’s apps while on the move. A reversing camera is included in this trim, too, helping you to park in tight spaces. The Tekna has a camera on the side and at the front for an even better view.
