Nissan’s Z-car heritage is the stuff of legend, ever since the 240Z took the motoring world by storm in the 70s. The latest version – the 370Z – keeps the legend alive with track-day handling and phenomenal performance.
Short, squat and strong: the 370Z looks powerful, like a big cat ready to pounce. It’ll draw envious glances from neighbours and across the office car park.
The boomerang-shaped head and tail lights, pronounced haunches and iconic ‘Z’ badges that adorn the flanks and steering wheel signal its heritage. Large alloy wheels on every version means you’ll look the part too.
The intimate two-seater cabin harks back to road-legal race cars from time gone by. Gaze out across the bonnet and enjoy the view of the road ahead, because it’s all about the drive.
Home comforts are on hand when traffic brings things to a standstill. Climate control will keep you cool on even the warmest days, while special leather and suede upholstery (standard on the GT trim) adds to the luxurious surroundings.
Bluetooth connectivity means you can safely take calls on the move while keeping your hands on the wheel, while a BOSE sound system with eight speakers and six-CD changer (on GT and NISMO models) will help set the perfect soundtrack for every drive.
The 370 name comes from the potent 3.7-litre engine propelling the rear wheels. This throaty V6 engine boasts over 320bhp and powers the car to 60mph in just 5.3 seconds, with a top speed limited to 155mph.
And if that’s not enough for you, the heart-stirring 370Z NISMO model is even more powerful.
A six-speed manual gearbox comes as standard and brings a traction-enhancing limited-slip differential. It provides greater stability around corners, making it more predictable and even easier to drive fast. A seven-speed automatic gearbox with manual override is also available as an option.
Safety is a top priority in the 370Z, with six airbags, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, electronic brakeforce distribution and active front headrests on the standard equipment list. There’s also an alarm system and immobiliser, just in case anybody finds it a little too irresistible.
